Frequently Asked Questions
Can I wash my sling?
All of our slings are machine washable. Please machine wash them on a gentle cycle, and dry on medium heat in the dryer, or line dry. You can also iron the slings if necessary, on medium heat.
My baby is over a year old - is it still worthwhile to buy a sling?
Definitely! Toddlers are extremely heavy to carry just with your arms. By using a G Sling, their weight is distributed throughout your back and hips. G Slings easily fit in purses or backpacks or diaper bags, so if they're tired of walking by themselves (or you're tired of walking slowly behind them!), or even being pushed in a stroller, you can take out your sling and strap them on. G Slings can be used from birth to when the child is 35 pounds!
My husband doesn't like the "tail" of the sling, and sometimes I don't like it either. What can I do?
Simple! I often tuck the tail of the sling under the baby, or you can always hem the tail to a length that you're more comfortable with.
The tail is multipurpose: in colder weather it's great to wrap around the little one to add an extra layer, it's also great to use for a breastfeeding cover, a makeshift shelter for the child’s head in unexpected rain or snow, or even as a picnic blanket or burp cloth when in a bind!
I already bought a front carrier at a big department store- why would I need another sling?
Front carriers can dig into your shoulders and can quickly get uncomfortable. G Slings distributes the weight more evenly across your shoulder, back and hips. Front carriers are hard on a newborn's hips and spine, and most come with a warning not to wear them for longer than twenty minutes at a time. Newborns can be cradled in the sling, which puts less strain on their spine. Babies quickly grow out of front carriers, whereas G Slings will last for years- from birth to 35 pounds. There are very, very few items on the market that last that long! Breastfeeding is nearly impossible in a front carrier as well.
I'm having a hard time getting the hang of it. Help?
Along with the videos and illustrations on this site, there are lots of tutorials online that may give you the answer you're looking for (search for videos on YouTube). If you have a specific question please feel free to contact me and I'll do my best to help!
Like any baby carrier, there is a learning curve, but once you get the hang of it, you'll be surprised you ever lived without it!
I'm quite big/small. Would a G Sling be good for me?
Definitely! G Slings fit almost anyone! They're fully adjustable so not only will it fit you, it'll fit your husband/wife/sister/brother/mother/father/babysitter too. If you're really sure that you're going to be too big/small to fit a standard G Sling, you can always order a custom sling that is perfectly suitable to your body type.
I tried using a sling once, but my baby hated it.
I recommend learning how to use the sling when you baby isn't fussy at all. It's easy to get frustrated and give up when your baby is complaining. If you've tried all the different holds several times and your baby still doesn't seem to like the sling, try again in a couple of months when you can try a new position (Kangaroo instead of the Cradle or Tummy to Tummy hold, for example). I've found that the earlier you start, the more used to the sling they are and the more they'll like it as they get older.
Be patient. Your baby will be able to sense your frustration. There is a learning curve with any baby carrier, and when you master using them, you'll wonder why more people don't wear them! G Slings are so much easier to use than having to tot around a car seat or bulky stroller!
